To all the Ladies out there: (my response to Victoria’s Secret show last night, which I did not watch, in case you were wondering…sinners!!!)
Why are you so beautiful? Seriously think about that….Why?
Here is my answer: First, For all the women, past, present and yet still to come into this world of ours, YOU are unique and distinct in your make up. There has never been, not one now, or one still to come, that is exactly like you. You are that perfect combination of YOU. That is what makes you beautiful.
Secondly, you have been blessed to be a co-creators with God, actualized or remains in potential. You are blessed to be able to form another living being within you! As complex and different as we are, you form life within…With all that we have still yet to learn and know about the process, it takes place within you. That is beautiful.
Third, You have a power that can bring any man to his knees. “Behind every strong man is a stronger woman” is an understatement. No man can take advantage of you and your beauty, if you don’t allow him to. Because what does every woman truly want to give to a man? Her heart! For what gift of beauty is valued only by what it is wrapped in?
Fourth, Christ our Savior made the Church his spouse, as I share in that priesthood. Modeled after a woman, the Church is to be strong, courageous, Holy, united, and beautiful. It is to attract those seeking love, hope, faith. It is to give life to those who feel dead or broken. It is to guide and comfort. All of which are characteristics of the identity of a woman. Think about it, a Church is modeled after your identity. That is beautiful.
, Every day as I walk as a priest, I have the opportunity to experience the beauty of creation, even in the midst of sadness and brokenness, beauty is present somewhere. I get the humble honor of trying to protect that beauty as it is intended by God. So with all my vast experience, knowledge and ministry, YOU are beautiful because I say you are beautiful. No if’s, and’s or but’s about it. If you would like to argue with me on why you aren’t beautiful…well frankly, try it…you’ll lose. I am not the author of beauty, but I know the source very well. Actually I consider myself an expert on the matter.
So whether it is a VS show, or some other show distorting and portraying beauty as something merely sexual be warned, YOU are so much more than something to look at, but something to BEHOLD in ALL that you are…Happy Advent
